KENYA AIRWAYS SUSPENDS BLANTRYE FLIGHTS DUE TO EMERGENCY RUNWAY REPAIRS

Kenya Airways announced yesterday that they were forced to suspend flights between today and the 29th of March to Blantyre / Malawi as a result of emergency repairs on the runway of Chileka Airport.
Passengers booked to Blantyre during this period of time will be rebooked on flights to Lilongwe’s Kamuzu International Airport and will have to make their own way to Blantyre by road.
Alternatively has Kenya Airways offered a full refund for unused tickets or a part refund for sectors not yet flown and additionally allowed one free rebooking for passengers holding tickets to Blantyre.
Kenya Airways was only two weeks ago subjected to a sudden withdrawal of their 5th freedom traffic rights between Lilongwe and Lusaka, when the Malawian civil aviation authority terminated the arrangement with immediate effect after newly launched Malawian Airlines, owned 51 percent by the Malawian government and 49 percent of the shares by Ethiopian Airlines, commenced flights to the Zambia capital.
Meanwhile has the airline also given indication that the delivery of their first B787 Dreamliner might after all not be affected by the discovery of wing production problems as previously reported here and all eyes remain on the 04th of April when the first of 6 aircraft to be delivered by Boeing to Kenya Airways this year will make the maiden landing at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
