Lucky escape for passengers as Cessna Grand Caravan tyre bursts on take off

A Cessna B208 Grand Caravan, registered as 5Y-SPZ, suffered a tyre burst on attempted take off from the Kakuma Airstrip, Turkana County in Kenya, leading to a runway excursion.

All those on board, 8 passengers and two crew, escaped shaken but unharmed. It was learned that the passengers were part of an election campaign team, flying on to the town of Lodwar in the late afternoon after completing a political rally in Kakuma.

The stranded passengers were later airlifted by helicopter to their destination.
