RWANDAIR CONFIRMS LAUNCH OF LUSAKA FLIGHTS

(Posted 23rd January 2015)

Rwanda’s national airline has just confirmed that come 29th of March they will launch their 17th destination, Lusaka, the capital city of Zambia.

The airline will fly three times a week from Kigali to Lusaka, traffic days still to be confirmed, in conjunction with their flights between Kigali and Johannesburg.

RwandAir will use their B737NG’s for the flights, which according to information received earlier on will route Kigali – Lusaka – Johannesburg – Lusaka – Kigali, with traffic rights on all sectors.

A source close to the airlines said when passing the information a few minutes ago: ‘It is the fifth freedom rights between Lusaka and Johannesburg which make the route viable. There is growing demand in East Africa for direct connections to Zambia. RwandAir is well positioned to offer such connections via Kigali, which has become a transit hub after our airport was expanded and modernized. We will be able to offer flights to Lusaka, where COMESA is headquartered, from our entire network in Eastern Africa and Western Africa. In turn will Zambians be able to reach our destinations as far as Dubai, and at fares which people can afford’.

Launch fares will be announced in due course when the full marketing campaign goes underway. Meanwhile check www.rwandair.com for information on schedules, fares and the airline’s frequent flyer programme ‘Dream Miles’.
