Following the recent opening of a new Moevenpick Hotel in the Kenyan capital Nairobi have news emerged that the Swiss hotel management company was now taken over by French hotel giant Accor Hotels at a cost of nearly 500 million Euros. The acquisition will globally add over 80 hotels to the Accor portfolio with Moevenpick already planning to open a further 40 hotels, many of which will be based in Africa and add a further upmarket brand to the already heavily loaded market segment. Accord owns and operates luxury and first class hotels under brand names like Sofitel, Pullman, Fairmont and Raffles, among others.
Accor Hotels already got a presence in the Westlands area of Nairobi, where the Moevenpick Nairobi opened its doors a few weeks ago, with two of their brands, Pullman and Ibis Styles and with the Fairmont The Norfolk another 5 star hotel at the edge of the Central Business District.
This latest development will make Accor the leading hotel group in the Westlands area with three brands covering the 5, 4 and 3 star segments of the market and gives them overall a 4 property presence in Nairobi.
