Mohammed Hersi elected Kenya Tourism Federation Chair

LUCY KARUME HANDS OVER KTF CHAIR TO MOHAMMED HERSI AFTER AGM ELECTIONS

(Posted 17th June 2017)

The Kenya Tourism Federation yesterday held its Annual General Meeting in Nairobi and one of the key agenda items was the election of a new Board of Directors after long serving Ms. Lucy Karume had indicated she was stepping down from that role after serving for seven years in the capacity as chairperson.
KTF is the Kenya national private sector tourism apex body, similar to the Uganda Tourism Association and the Tourism Confederation of Tanzania, providing the umbrella for all key sectoral associations representing specific interests like hotels, tour operators and travel agents, among others.

Mohammed Hersi has over the past years been the chairperson of the Kenya Coast Tourism Association which evolved out of the Mombasa and Coast Tourism Association and equally represents the specific interests of the tourism fraternity from Lamu to Malindi, from Kilifi to Mombasa and then along the coastline south of Mombasa to the border with Tanzania.
Mohammed proved to be a vocal defender of coastal interests on the national Kenyan stage and a key actor in many fora and conferences when in past years the tourism industry in Kenya was struggling and sought new ways to revive the sector.
Vice chair under the new leadership line up is KATO’s Mr. Fred Odek while the new KTF treasurer is hotel industry veteran Mark Gathuri.
Others on the new Board of Directors are Capt. TAD Watts of Boskovic Air Charters, Mr. JS Vohra of Sarova Hotels, Dr. Christopher Gakahu, Mr. Peter Ngori, Mr. Gitonga Gathua, Miss Rosemary Kaittany and finally Mr. Richard Corcoran as security chair and Mr. David Stogdale as marketing chair.
Industry sources contacted all expressed their thanks to Lucy Karume and her team for the work done over the past years under often very challenging circumstances and applauded the election of Mohammed Hersi and the new team.

From this correspondent, who knows most of the new KTF leadership, also the best wishes for their tasks ahead and arrivederci to Lucy and her team whose interaction over the past years was greatly appreciated.
