More flights planned between Colombo and Mahe

MIHIN LANKA EYES MORE SEYCHELLES FLIGHTS

(Posted 08th July 2014)

Sri Lanka’s low cost carrier Mihin Lanka, presently connecting Colombo with Mahe twice a week on Tuesday and Saturday, seems set to add more frequencies in due course. Since starting the flights has the airline added a business class section in their planes and passenger loads have increased to levels which make the route financially viable.

The no Visa required policy of the Seychelles has been an important factor in making the flights a success as many passengers actually use Mihin Lanka now from their own countries like Bangladesh, India and Indonesia while codeshare arrangement with fellow carrier Sri Lankan have opened up even more options for passengers from India and the rest of Asia to connect in Colombo to Mahe.

With presently 5 aircraft on the fleet, all Airbus A320 and A321 models, is the airline, formed in late 2006, presently flying to one domestic and 11 international destinations from their Colombo hub.

Owners of Seychellois owned hotels on the main island of Mahe are thought to be the main beneficiaries of flights by Mihin Lanka as passengers flying with this airline appear to prefer more affordable accommodation, using guest houses, B&B’s, holiday apartments and smaller hotels.
