Mweka Wildlife College selected as Regional Centre of Excellence

MWEKA WILDLIFE COLLEGE NAMED CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE FOR EAST AFRICA

The College of African Wildlife Management, aka the Mweka Wildlife College, located near Moshi on the lower slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro, was last week named as one of only four Regional Centres of Excellence in Tanzania after a verification exercise spanning several months.
From across the East African Community 25 proposals had been sent to the Secretariat, five from each member country, and Mweka was selected alongside three others, amongst them the Dar es Salaam Marine Institute, the Bagamoyo Institute for Arts and Culture and the Moshi College for Cooperative and Business Studies, to become the top rated such institution within the EAC.
Not qualified however was the Zanzibar Institute of Marine Sciences which failed to meet all the criteria to be selected as a regional centre of excellence and will have to undergo future evaluation again, once recommended changes have been implemented
Mweka has for long build an excellent reputation for wildlife management courses and research and is regarded not just as being on top of East Africa but the continent of Africa at large. Well done to Mweka on this occasion and congratulations to the academic and administrative staff of the wildlife college for this significant accomplishment.
