New catering unit to serve Kigali International Airport

KIGALI’S INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT SET FOR NEW CATERING UNIT

(Posted 09th June 2014)

Details are beginning to emerge from Kigali that a new catering unit is under construction at the international airport. On completion will the new facility by and large take over the catering now prepared by some of Kigali’s leading hotels, operating from a secure airside location. The investors were reportedly given an initial 15 year concession to provide meals to airlines operating into Kigali and national airline RwandAir is said to have a direct interest in the venture, which if confirmed would be no wonder as RwandAir is the largest user of the airport with the most flights, domestic and across their continental network.

Kigali International Airport was recently expanded with new departure lounges and check-in desks to cater for the sharp rise in flight movements and passenger numbers and is expected to serve the aviation community until the planned airport in Bugesera will be ready in a few years’ time. National carrier RwandAir has been expanding their fleet over the past two years and more is yet to come, going by reports from their headoffice in Kigali, with additional destinations coming on line later this year like Abidjan.

Kigali is also served by Kenya Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, South African and Air Uganda in codeshare with RwandAir, Brussels Airlines, KLM and Qatar Airways among others. Watch this space for breaking and regular aviation news from across Eastern Africa.
