Greetings from us all at Gamewatchers Safaris & Porini Camps!

Potential safari-goers often ask when is the ideal time of year to visit Kenyato get the very best wildlife-viewing opportunities.

Many people seem to believe that July to October (for the annual Great Wildebeest Migration in the Masai Mara) is the only time to visit. Although our guests do witness spectacular scenes at this time, there is more to Kenya than the Migration – and there are so many advantages in visiting at other times of year, not least being that you can enjoy watching the teeming wildlife without many other tourist vehicles being present.

Elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, giraffes (and many other species) enjoy the sanctuary of our conservancies all year around. And – of course – visiting at quieter times of the year means that you can make considerable savings on your flight and accommodation prices.
One of Kenya’s best-kept wildlife secrets is that there is actually another migration each year. This one, between January and March, is an east to west migration of wildebeest from the Loita plains in Kenya to the Mara, traversing Ol Kinyei, Naboisho and Olare Motorogi Conservancies. During these hot, dry months, animals tend to congregate near water-holes, which gives rise to excellent wildlife viewing. And February to March is the calving season for wildebeest so visitors to our Porini Mara and Porini Lion camps in those months will have the chance to see this spectacle themselves.

We have limited late availability at our camps in February and March and you can take advantage of our very special discounted rates, bringing 7 day tours from just US$ 2945 per person.

See our Recommended 2019 Special Offers page for the latest deals.

Also, our Porini Lion Camp will be open during May this year when the conservancies and reserves are typically less crowded, so this is another great time to travel if you wish to enjoy the peace and tranquility of the wilderness.

What is the "Porini Experience"?

A Porini safari is for the true wildlife enthusiast who wishes to get close to nature to enjoy an undisturbed personal adventure with a knowledgeable and qualified safari guide using customised open-sided 4×4 safari vehicles and escorted nature walks.

Recent Porini Camps guest Monica Bugge kindly shared her safari experience in a great review which truly reflects what the "Porini Experience" is all about:

Wow! – where should I even begin? My Mum and I went to Kenya due to our mutual love for animals and nature. Little did I know that it would not only be the wildlife that made this trip the most incredible experience of my life, but that the people there would also have such a huge impact on my experience.

The guides and drivers are extremely knowledgeable and experienced, and they can spot animals miles away. The managers and the rest of the staff are professional, warm and humble. The chefs are amazing and the food is delicious, the surroundings are breathtaking, and I cannot think of a more perfect and genuine way to experience the African wildlife.

We saw more animals than we could ever hope for, and got very close to them all because the vehicles in the Porini Camps are allowed to drive off-road.

The eco-friendliness of the Porini Camps is admirable – their focus is to support the local communities and to conserve Kenya’s ecosystem so that its wildlife can flourish, and that’s something I will gladly contribute to. I am already planning my next trip and I can’t wait to go back.

Thank you, Monica – we look forward to welcoming you back to Porini Camps very soon!
