Guinea-Bissau 5 year logging moratorium. EXTRACT: Guinea-Bissau announced a five-year moratorium on logging on Thursday to try to clamp down on an illegal timber trade fuelled largely by Chinese demand and aided by complicit politicians and senior army officials. Traffic Southeast Asia Illicit drugs, gambling machines, protected wildlife – you name it, this little village in Batam, Indonesia was dealing in it. Authorities seized several cockatoos, mynas and eagles in a major operation on Wednesday. The wildlife traffickers face up to five years in jail if convicted for illegal possession of the protected birds.
