(Posted 26th November 2015)

Not one but two of the World Luxury Hotel Awards were handed to Nairobi’s Dusit D2 at the recent award ceremony held at the Harbour Grand in Hong Kong, it was learned when recently in Kenya for the Africa Travel Association’s 40th Congress.

The two awards were for the category of Best Luxury Boutique Hotel in Africa and Best Luxury Business Hotel in Kenya. These awards are broadly accepted to be handed to those who have reached the pinnacle of their profession and the Dusit team in Nairobi was proud to have been at the receiving end.

Dusit D2 is the only hotel in Kenya of an international Thai brand name and has over the past year and a bit since its opening established itself as a local favourite, located in the parklands of the Riverside area of Nairobi just outside the Central Business District.

Michael Metaxas, the General Manager of the Dusit D2 in Nairobi, had this to add after receiving the news that his hotel had captured the two awards: ‘It is such a thrill to win these two awards. For a young hotel such as the dusitD2 Nairobi, it is a great honour and a great accomplishment to be recognized by the World Luxury Hotel Awards. Our frequent guests and hotel associates can’t stop talking about these awards and its only within our first year of operation’.

Kenya has in the recent past attracted a range of new internationally branded hotel projects, where mostly local owners then select a global brand name as their management company. Rezidor, now that the new Radisson Blu on Upper Hill is open, is already looking at a second of their brands to make a debut as are reportedly Moevenpick, Marriott, Starwood brand Four Points and Hilton brand Garden Inn, among many others.
