AIR AUSTRAL’S MANAGEMENT SAYS REASONS BEYOND THEIR CONTROL LED TO 4.5 MILLION EURO LOSS

For the first time in five years has Air Austral, the home airline of the French Indian Ocean region of Reunion, posted an operational loss.
Major factors for the negative trend were the ongoing groundings of the airline’s Boeing B787’s over mandatory inspections of their Rolls Royce Trent 1000 engines which led to costly aircraft charters and schedule disruptions, as was reported here by ATCNews.
Besides the B787’s does the airline’s fleet include 3 B777’s, 2 B737’s and one ATR72 which carried over 1.2 million passengers last year.
The airline, besides flying to Johannesburg, also serves routes to other Indian Ocean islands like the Seychelles, Mauritius, Madagascar – where Air Austral holds a 49 percent share in Air Madagascar – but also to Mayotte and the Comoros.
Air Austral also flies to the French cities of Paris and Marseille, to India and Thailand.
