MAJOR CHANGES AHEAD FOR RWANDAIR SCHEDULE AS ABIDJAN LAUNCHES ON 02ND OCTOBER

(Posted 13th August 2016)

It is not just the addition of new aircraft and the launch of long haul flights, which has put RwandAir into the spotlight of African aviation of late.
With the arguable youngest fleet on the continent is RwandAir a high flyer by any standards and when the two brand new Airbus A330 aircraft and another two brand new Boeing B737-800NG have arrived in Kigali is the airline also expected to significantly raise the number of destinations across Southern and West Africa to help fill the long haul flights to Mumbai and Guangzhou.
As reported here before will RwandAir launch Harare in January 2017 but it is already in October this year that the long anticipated flights to Abidjan will go underway.
Effective 02nd October will RwandAir fly three times a week via Accra to Abidjan, every Tuesday, Friday and Sunday, using a B737-800NG for the service.
Flights to Accra will be boosted from presently 6 a week to daily and three of these flights will be nonstop.
The present Accra flights via Lagos will reduce from presently 6 a week to 4 a week, operating on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday while Lagos will then be served daily too, also using a Boeing B737-800NG.
Another new routing will come into effect on the 02nd of September already when flight WB 214/5 will begin to serve Douala, Libreville and Cotonou in that order. Cotonou too is a new destination as announced earlier this year by RwandAir’s CEO Mr. John Mirenge.
In East Africa will the flights from Kigali to Dar es Salaam be combined with a stopover in Kilimanjaro / Arusha as flight WB 448/9 using a Bombardier Q400NG for the four times a week service.
Dates for the launch of Airbus A330-200 services to Dubai, due in October as well, which according to present information will operate four times a week – the remaining three flights will continue to operate via Mombasa using a B737-800NG – will be announced as soon as the airline has given final confirmation.
