GREATER RESTRICTIONS AND TIGHTER MEASURES LAUNCHED TO COMBAT RISE IN COVID19 CASES
(Posted 05th May 2021)
The Seychelles government, no doubt stung by the recent CDC statement to avoid traveling to the archipelago has reacted promptly and announced a series of new regulatory measures while reversing the trend of the past several weeks, during which measures were relaxed for both visitors and locals.
ATCNews has obtained a copy of the new rules, effective immediately, which are all aimed to curb the spread of the disease. At the same time are health authorities aiming at increasing the already high vaccination rate among the adult population, which stands at over 60 percent already, among the highest percentage in the world.
Health authorities are also trying to establish if a new mutant species of the Corona virus may be responsible for the sudden rise in cases while virus experts from around the world are trying to figure out how a very high rate of vaccination corresponds with a sudden rise in cases – as of last night standing at 6.373 cases, thereof 1.068 active cases versus 5.277 recoveries.

Tourism, a vital economic activity for the Seychelles, has started to recover after several airlines resumed flights to Mahe and Air Seychelles launched charter flights from Romania but the latest measures have once again left the hospitality and tourism industry across the archipelago in an unenviable situation, uncertain of the immediate future of the sector.
