MAJOR REFURBISHMENTS ROLLING OUT AS THE KAMPALA SHERATON HOTEL CELEBRATES 50 YEARS
(Posted 20th March 2017)
In October this year will the hotel, which is today the Kampala Sheraton, celebrate its 50th anniversary.
For Uganda as a country this is no doubt worth a celebration but also a moment to look back over those five decades, when the Pearl of Africa underwent dramatic change, first for good, then for worse and then finally for better again, making the country today a much in demand investment and tourism destination. The hotel’s owners, Constellation Hotels – the group and principal shareholder also own the Djibouti Sheraton Hotel and notably the Addis Ababa Sheraton Hotel – have big plans to return the shine to the property and both public areas and rooms will undergo some extensive refurbishments, according to General Manager Jean Philippe Bittencourt.
‘Initially will four floors undergo major refurbishment with among other features new bathrooms‘ said Jean Philippe yesterday ‘… but immediately most visible will be the changes in the lobby and the Park Square lounge on the ground floor‘.
In fact the popular Park Square next to the hotel’s entrance is presently closed and undergoing refurbishment, but set to reopen on the 25th of March before the main lobby is then also seeing an optical upgrade with new furniture and a new layout.
The poolside will get a new kitchen to offer guests and patrons another option of where to have a quick snack while the existing dining venues, the Victoria Restaurant where breakfast is served, the Paradise Terrace and the Seven Seas, will over the coming weeks and months all see some visible changes coming up before the hotel in October then marks the countdown to the day when it all started 50 odd years ago.
