The World Travel Awards Africa 2018 go to familiar names

Congratulations are in order for Gamewatchers / Porini which last night was handed the award for being the continental winner of Africa’s Responsible Tourism Award, a major honour and also recognition for the work done by the company and its founders Jake Grieves Cook and Mohanjeet Braar.

Also among the continental winners were Ethiopian Airlines with two awards, being named as both Africa’s leading airline and Africa’s leading airline brand.
Diani Beach was once again named as Africa’s best beach destination, Ol Pejeta was crowned as conservation champion, having bagged the award as Africa’s leading conservation company while the Radisson Blu in Kigali retained the award as Africa’s leading conference hotel.
The Marasa Africa owned and managed Aberdare Country Club in Mweiga / Nyeri / Kenya received the award as Africa’s leading green hotel while resurgent Hilton was named as Africa’s leading hotel brand.
Notable was Fastjet again named as Africa’s leading low cost carrier.

Kempinski in Kenya received two continental awards, for the Villa Rosa Kempinski as Africa’s leading luxury hotel and for their Olare Mara Kempinski Camp as Africa’s leading luxury camp. The Masai Mara, where the latter is located, received the continental thumbs up as the best nationalpark.

Pollmans Tours and Safaris received the award as Africa’s best tour operator.

Country honours for Kenya went, among others, to Hemingways in Watamu and the Amboseli Serena Lodge, both for best in their class.

Auric Air of Tanzania was for the third year in a row named as the country’s leading safari airline.

In Uganda were the winners almost predictable with the Kampala Serena Hotel once again capturing the award for the country’s leading hotel while sister property Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort & Spa again convinced as having the best Presidential Suite in the country.
Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge too got on the pedestal when they recaptured the award for Uganda’s leading safari lodge.

Congratulations also to the Victoria Falls Hotel / Victoria Falls / Zimbabwe which received not one but two awards as Zimbabwe’s leading hotel and also leading resort.

Finally, congratulations to my friends at #Fancourt / George / South Africa where their Manor House was named as the leading country house hotel.
