Uganda government lifts PCR test on arrival for fully vaccinated travelers from Cat 2 countries

STINGING CRITICISM LEADS TO CHANGE OF MIND AS FULLY VACCINATED TRAVELERS FROM CATEGORY 2 COUNTRIES NOW SPARED PCR TESTS ON ARRIVAL

(Posted 05th July 2021)

Uganda for a period of time stood out like a sore thumb amongst destination countries, insisting on a PCR test on arrival for passengers coming from Category 2 countries, even if those travelers had been fully vaccinated.
Besides the inevitable cost of 65 US Dollars per person and the loss of time the tests involved, did no amount of good advice seem to be heeded by government officials, to embrace international best practice that fully vaccinated people be granted access to their destination countries without the requirement for additional test.
After all did these tests came in addition to the mandatory PCR tests prior to departure from a country of origin, which airlines require to check in and board passengers destined for Uganda.

Finally now has Uganda over the weekend changed those rules and visitors from Category 2 countries – such as the United States of America, United Kingdom / Britain, United Arab Emirates / UAE, Turkey, South Africa, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania and South Sudan – can now enter Uganda without having to undergo a PCR test on arrival as long as they are fully vaccinated (effective 2 weeks after second dose or 2 weeks after receiving a single dose vaccine like Johnson & Johnson) and show no visible signs of an infection or display an increased temperature beyond 37.5 degrees.

The new measures will remain in place, unless further amended, until the 31st of July 2021 at which time a new advisory will be issued.
