At 21.19 hrs local East African time did an earthquake hit Uganda, measuring a reported 4.5 on the open ended Richter Scale.

As of this morning have official sources in Uganda, including the Directorate of Geological Survey and Mines, not yet issued a statement but official confirmation came soon afterwards from international sources such as the United States Geological Survey and other global earthquake monitoring stations.

Soon after the even, which was felt across Kampala too, did the social media time lines fill up with questions, comments and narratives of the quake.

None of those however reported any damages though individual experiences were graphic at times.

The Eastern African region, crossed by the Great African Rift Valley, is a geologically very active region with some active volcanoes in Tanzania and Eastern Congo and earthquakes are known to happen from time to time though such events within Central Uganda are rare.
