#UgandaAirlines finally gets a new Board of Directors

PEREZ AHABWE APPOINTED CHAIRMAN OF THE UGANDA AIRLINES BOARD

While Uganda Airlines is still working to complete the audit processes required to attain an AOC, short for Air Operator Certificate – i.e. the operating licence for flights – has the airline at least a fully functional board of directors now.
The Minister for Transport and Communications, Monica Azuba Ntege, on Friday made the announcement and introduced the newly appointed chairman and directors.
Perez Ahabwe, a former MP and former State Minister, was appointed as Chairman of the Board while the two government appointees were named as Benon Kajuna from the Ministry of Transport and Communications and Godfrey Ssemugooma from the Ministry of Finance.
The additional members of the board were named as Catherine Asinde Poran and Rehema N. Mutazindwa, Charles Hamya – former General Manager of DStv/Multichoice Uganda and Stephen Aziku Zua.
The board appointment fulfills one of the conditions parliament has set through one of its committees to release additional funds but it is understood that more boxes need to be ticked before more money is released to the airline.
The repeatedly revised launch date of July this year is now also in question as, once the full AOC application process has been completed and the certificate been granted, additional ground work will be necessary before the first commercial flight can take off.
