UK removes ‘Do Not Enter’ sign from Malindi and Kilifi County as anti travel advisory finally changed

UK FOLLOWS AMERICAN EXAMPLE AND LIFTS ANTI TRAVEL ADVISORIES AGAINST MALINDI

(Posted 29th October 2015)

Kenya’s tourism stakeholders were today handed good news when the UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office finally followed suit what their American cousins already did a while ago – lifting the entirely unjustified and unsustainable anti travel advisory against the resort town of Malindi.

Hastily included into their travel advice which caused literally the entire coastline blacklisted, and, following several site visits found to be totally over the top as Malindi never did have any security issues, had the UK singlehandedly destroyed Kenya’s coastal tourism sector over what many saw as part of a hidden agenda over unresolved and contentious issues between the two countries.

Now, with the advisory language revised and the ban lifted, which prohibited all but essential travel, can in particular Malindi and Watamu look ahead at better times.

This correspondent earlier this month again visited Watamu and the Malindi area, when the anti travel advisories were still in place by the US and the UK and while hoteliers and safari operators expressed hope for better days ahead, this can now become reality. Returning again to the area in early November will opportunity arise to have tourism stakeholders go on record and share how bookings are picking up, now that the UK’s ‘Do not enter’ signs have been removed.
