Understanding the opportunity

of the growing ACMI market in Africa

Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance (ACMI) providers continue to play a prominent role in providing market-leading services to help airlines meet their operations in the post-covid era. Given the growing large-scale fleet shortages for major African carriers, mounting staff shortage issues, and growing demand for aircraft maintenance services and capital leases, it goes without question that the regional market holds significant prospects for lease operators to provide alternative and flexible services to enable these airlines to achieve their expected operational levels in 2023.

We spoke with Dainius Staniulis, Vice President of Commercial and Business Development at Avion Express, a provider of short and long-term leasing and charter solutions.  We discussed the growing importance of ACMI – Aircraft Crew Maintenance and Insurance in Africa.

We talked about the definition of ACMI and how it differs from the traditional means of operating on the continent.

How big the ACMI market is right now, the prevailing market conditions in Africa that make ACMI particularly appropriate and examples where the solution has been deployed successfully on the continent.

Finally we discussed if an airline can still make money on this type of operation.
