SUSTAINABLE TOURISM FOR DEVELOPMENT
(Posted 04th May 2017)
In the context of the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development (IY2017), the UNWTO is working on a report on “Sustainable Tourism for Development”. This report serves as the foundation of the IY2017, and thus defines the current and potential contribution of tourism towards sustainable development– highlighting the sector’s strengths and the challenges it faces. It identifies some of the changes needed as we move forward – in policies, business practices and consumer behaviour. It also provides links to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and shall help to establish a more solid knowledge base through evidence and facts.
For this purpose the UNWTO produced a discussion paper that offers a framework for further debate and is meant to inspire discussion and critical comment.
We are pleased to invite you to share your comments on the discussion paper with us, as well as case studies that highlight the contribution of tourism towards sustainable development.
Please find all documents on the official website: IY2017.
We kindly ask you to send the comments on the discussion paper and the submission form for case studies per email to iydiscussionpaper.
UNWTO will consider all comments and case studies received by 30 June 2017.
Should you need any more information, please do not hesitate to contact us at iydiscussionpaper.
