SEYCHELLES ON THE WAY FOR NEW ARRIVAL RECORD IN 2017

Arrivals to the Seychelles, as of the end of last week, have in comparison with last year risen from 106.623 visitors (by air and cruises) to 128.827, a rise of 21 percent.
Leading tourist source countries remain France and Germany, joined by the United Arab Emirates, Italy, Britain and Russia.
The massive increase comes on the back of additional flights to Mahe, the archipelago’s main island and home to the international airport, after Qatar Airways launched daily flights late last year. Also flying to Mahe now is Turkish Airlines while Austrian is due to commence flights later this year.
National airline Air Seychelles has also increased frequencies to key destinations and launched flights to the German city of Duesseldorf to make vacationing on the islands easier for German travelers.
Meanwhile is the Seychelles’ tourism private sector still in shock over their government’s withdrawal of the endorsement for Alain St. Ange to run for the post of Secretary General of the UNWTO and it is understood that legal action may be brought to compel the government to compensate St. Ange.
St. Ange, and his winning team at the Seychelles Tourism Board and later at the Ministry for Tourism and Culture are widely credited as having initiated the boom for Seychelles’ tourism industry while at the same time empowering locals to take a greater stake in the sector.
