We’re drowning in plastic: tell the EU to act NOW!
Dear friends of the rainforests,
From PET bottles and produce packaging to clothing, plastic is everywhere in our daily lives. And with a recycling rate of only 30 percent in Europe, the mountains of waste are growing alarmingly.
Despite sorting and recycling schemes, 70% of the EU’s plastic waste is incinerated or ends up in landfills – or as litter.
A plastic waste strategy recently published by the European Commission notes that plastic particles have become ubiquitous – even polluting our air, drinking water and food.
The strategy then falls far short in addressing the problem: While it calls for all packaging materials to be reusable or recyclable by 2030, it does not contain any proposals to curb the production or use of plastic.
Tell the EU to create a plastics strategy with real teeth – and put an end to the plastics madness!
Thanks for being involved,
