The Women Academics in Tourism (WAIT) has published its list of 50 Awesome Scholars in Tourism globally for 2018.

Kenya’s Judy Kepher Gona, founder of the Sustainable Travel & Tourism Agenda (STTA), was named as one of 50 Awesome Scholars in Tourism. Judy is a household name in sustainable tourism in the African region and her reputation has spread around the globe.
In 2017 she made the list of Top 100 women in Tourism in Africa and received her award during AKWAABA in Lagos.
Some of her other notable achievements have been serving as judge for WTTC Tourism for Tomorrow Awards and Nat Geo Unique Lodges of the World as well as serving as a board member of Global Sustainable Tourism Council.

WAIT says the following about the project:

In an increasing neoliberalisation of universalities all over the world, values that inspire us are often overlooked in academic system. We created this project because we wanted to celebrate the “goodness” in our colleagues without putting weightage on H-indices and journal ranking

STTA commented that the organization is proud and delighted by this achievement and added: ‘We are here to inspire confidence in the sustainable development of tourism and conservation. Don’t miss our annual Green Tourism Summit 2018 from June 19th to the 21st at The White Rhino Hotel , in Nyeri, Kenya. Come meet @GonaJudy and get a dose on sustainability inspiration and challenge‘.
