| To understand the tensions surrounding conservation in southwestern Ethiopia, one must travel about 484 kilometers from Addis Ababa to Chebera Churchura National Park, a vast protected area in the Omo-Gibe basin known for its rivers, forests and wildlife. Covering about 125,000 hectares, the park straddles the Dawro and Konta zones of the South West Ethiopia Peoples’ Region. It is home to one of the country’s largest elephant populations and is widely regarded as a key conservation area. |
