Skytrax recently unveiled the results of its annual World Airport Awards during a prestigious ceremony held in Frankfurt, Germany. As a leading authority in airline and airport evaluations, Skytrax conducted extensive surveys at over 570 airports worldwide, capturing traveler experiences and assessing various performance metrics.
From check-in to departure, respondents provided valuable feedback on key aspects such as arrivals, transfers, shopping, security, and immigration processes. The data collected between August 2023 and March 2024 from over 100 nationalities revealed Doha Hamad International Airport in Qatar as the global frontrunner, followed closely by Singapore Changi Airport Group, Seoul Incheon International Airport Corporation in South Korea, and Japan’s @Haneda and Narita International Airport Corporation airports, securing spots in the top five global rankings.
Notably, South African airports showcased their excellence with three airports securing positions in the top 100 globally. Cape Town International Airport, although slightly down from its previous ranking, still held a strong position at 54 globally. Durban’s King Shaka International Airport (DUR) Airport also made a significant impact, ranking 72nd globally, while Johannesburg OR Tambo Airport secured the 83rd spot all managed by Airports Company South Africa.
Moreover, Cape Town Airport clinched multiple accolades, including amongst Best Airport 2024 globally in the 5-10 million pax category at position eight (8), Best airport in Africa, Best Airport Staff in Africa, and the Cleanest Airport in Africa. Durban’s King Shaka Airport was recognized as the Best Airport Globally in the Under 5 Million Passenger Category and the Best Regional Airport in Africa, further highlighting South Africa’s aviation prowess.
Across Africa, a total of 18 airports from 11 countries received recognition, with notable achievements from Morocco and South Africa. The featured picture vividly illustrates the exemplary standards set by airports across the continent, with each position indicating its rank within a specific category in Africa.

precinct of an airport stood out in the Best Airport Hotel in Africa 2024 category:

3. Le Méridien Hotels & Resorts Cairo Airport
4. Novotel Cairo Airport
5. Radisson Blu Addis Ababa
