EUROWINGS DISCOVER‘ PREPARING FOR FLIGHTS TO VICTORIA FALLS

(Posted 12th June 2021)

Starting in March next year will Lufthansa leisure subsidiary Eurowings Discover commence flights from Frankfurt to the city of Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, finally bringing a direct connection with Germany back which has always been a major market for the Zimbabwean tourism industry.

The service will operate three times a week in conjunction with a nonstop flight between Frankfurt and Windhoek in Namibia – that service operating on a daily basis.
Traffic days for the Victoria Falls flight extension were given as Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, for both arriving and departing flights.

Wrote Dr. Andre Schulz, General Manager Lufthansa for Southern Africa and East Africa:

In many parts of the world, more and more people are being vaccinated, the number of infections is falling and travel restrictions are gradually easing up in several countries.
As a result, demand for Lufthansa Group airline tickets is increasing significantly, a strong signal that people are yearning to travel and experience different cultures once again.
Flights to leading long-haul leisure destinations such as Windhoek, have already been showing a strong increase in demand.
Thanks to positive booking trends and favorable market conditions, today I am able to announce that the Lufthansa Group will be further increasing our presence in Namibia.
With effect from 30th of March 2022, we will increase our operations to Windhoek from five weekly flights to a daily flight schedule, through our leisure airline– Eurowings Discover.
As a leading aviation company, we believe in connecting people through a reliable and comprehensive route network, allowing our guests to have an even greater variety of choice when planning their upcoming vacation or business trip.
It is with this in mind and great excitement, that through Eurowings Discover, we are additionally able to further expand our Sub-Sahara Africa route network, by adding a brand new destination to our portfolio: Victoria Falls.
From 30th of March 2022, the Lufthansa Group will for the first time in our history, operate a tag flight from Windhoek to Victoria Falls three times a week. Thus, bringing our Eurowings Discover African portfolio up to six leisure destinations in the region.

As Africa remains an important focus growth market for Eurowings Discover, our commitment to increasing our footprint and expanding our network within the region, whilst connecting strategic cities throughout the continent to our European hubs remains a priority for the Lufthansa Group.

Zimbabwe Tourism has expressed their delight over this development after the organization has for long worked towards establishing more long haul flight connections for Victoria Falls, one of the world’s greatest natural attractions and a springboard for safaris to Hwange National Park, the ruins of ancient Great Zimbabwe and beyond.
