Breaking News – Seychelles install two more 8MW turbines to boost electricity output

NEW TURBINES TO PRODUCE A FURTHER 16 MW OF POWER

The Seychelles government has just imported two additional turbines, bringing total electricity generation to now 73 MW, compared to the present peak consumption on the main island of Mahe of 42 MW.

The move, welcomed by in particular hospitality businesses, will ensure that supply of electricity will remain ahead of growing demand, avoiding power cuts or the notorious ‘load shedding’ during which areas are ‘blacked out’ to match demand and supply.

Existing but also new resorts in particular will have noted the investment in the extra generating capacity with satisfaction as it guarantees them ‘power’ at all times, crucially important when the grid expands, new large scale consumers come ‘on line’ and as seen in other parts of Africa the mains then remain ‘without juice’. Nothing worse for overseas tourists than being in the tropics and the air condition is not working due to lack of electricity. Therefore well done – paradise in action.
