British Airways has announced plans to launch three times a week flights from London Gatwick to Zanzibar, via Kilimanjaro International.
Launch date has been given as the 29th of May 2027.
The new service will no doubt give a major boost to both safari and beach tourism for the northern circuit national parks and of course for the resorts on the island of Zanzibar.
In contrast to the Tanzania government’s efforts to attract additional air services to the mainland and to Zanzibar is Kenya struggling to accept that open skies will be the only way to reach their goal of 5 million tourists in a few years’ time, as airlines continue to beg for landing rights in Mombasa, additional frequencies to Nairobi and at least in one case landing rights in Malindi, to serve the northern coast resorts of Kilifi, Watamu, Malindi and beyond.
