#Etihad confirms Dar es Salaam is being axed

EXPOSED IN PUBLIC DOES ETIHAD AT LAST ADMIT THAT DAR ES SALAAM IS BEING DROPPED

(Posted 19th June 2018)

After being outed here on the 14th of June over their until then hidden intent to ditch Dar es Salaam did the airline the thing many airlines are notorious for, they kept silent while comments and mails piled up at ATCNews.org seeking confirmation and the rumour mill went into overdrive.
Now, finally, has Etihad, the financially struggling national airline of Abu Dhabi, admitted that they will indeed withdraw from the Tanzanian market place and leave the route to Gulf players who can and do perform, such as Qatar Airways – the latter despite the illegal air space denials by among others the UAE.

Etihad yesterday put public announcements to appear in the Tanzanian media and also informed travel agents about their decision to pull flights as of 01st of October this year and as a result are booking numbers now very likely to collapse already in the near future, unless the airline is flooding the market with special offers to at least keep up the resemblance of an orderly withdrawal and keeping some level of load factors on their flights.

This again is a perfect example how corporate communicators fail to stay ahead of such developments and own them by making timely announcements rather than encounter the inevitable ‘leaks’ and then having to deal with the aftermath, a raging rumour mill which is only damaging to their brand.

Quod erat demonstrandum!
