Rallye Mascaren kicks off as the ‘Tour of Reunion’ takes 20 travel agents across the island

RALLYE MASCARUN KICKS OFF WITH A VIGOUR

(Posted 27th May 2014)

When the 20 invited travel agents stepped off the Air Austral B777 at the Roland Garros International Airport in St. Denis, Reunion’s capital city yesterday morning, little did they know that they would be put to work almost immediately to start their scheduled exploration of the island in 5 groups of four participants each, after they were handed their rental cars, maps and treasure hunt like clues and instructions from staff of Reunion Tourism.

A short break to freshen up, having some refreshments and getting their initial briefing was deemed enough before the groups, outlined below, set out to follow the clues and tick all the right boxes.

The ‘Rallye’ is a novel way chosen by IRT to have travel agents on fam trips come closer to the real Ile de la Reunion, meet ordinary people along the way and learn from them about their way of life, find small hotels, B&B’s and guest houses, apart from the major resorts and discover the various attractions along the coast line and across the rugged interior of the island.

IRT, the island’s tourism office has partnered with Air Austral, the home airline for Reunion and a number of hotels and other service providers to put this unique concept into action and feedback at the end of day one was overwhelming as the visitors from mainland France were thrilled to be able to find their own way across the island.

The visit will last till the 31st of May when the 20 return home, no doubt as newfound ambassadors for the scenic beauty of Reunion island.
