Information was received that a patient admitted in Wajir county in an isolation ward was tested negative for the deadly Ebola Bundibugyo virus.
Wajir / Kenya patient isolated over fears of haemmorrhagic fever
“I am pleased to report that the preliminary laboratory results indicate that the sample is NEGATIVE for Ebola Virus Disease,” the Wajir county governor said in a statement.
The suspected patient is a 20-year-old man with a travel history from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) through Uganda to Kenya.
The other Kenyan patient who tested positive for the virus and subsequently died had travelled the same route.
Individuals presently admitted to isolation wards are now numbering 66 as contact tracing related to the first confirmed Ebola case continues across the country.
Meanwhile has the World Health Organization appealed to member states not to issue any travel advisories against Kenya over the so far isolated outbreak, advice which in the case of Uganda earlier this year was broadly ignored as the Pearl of Africa was slapped with some of the harshest anti travel advisories seen in the recent past.
The damage in particular to tourism in Uganda was substantial and it is hoped that Kenya is spared the same fate.
