AIR TANZANIA FORCED TO SUSPEND SONGEA / MTWARA FLIGHTS DUE TO POOR RUNWAY CONDITION

Information received from Dar es Salaam suggests that Air Tanzania will this week suspend their flights to Mtwara via Songea as a result of the deteriorating runway condition at Songea Airport (IATA: SGX, ICAO: HTSO)
Air Tanzania presently operates a combined flight TC116/7 linking Dar es Salaam and Songea with Mtwara and the airline is reportedly looking at ways and means to serve Mtwara directly while the runway at Songea is being repaired.
No details for a likely new routing and effective date however have been given by ATCL as yet.
Located at an elevation of 1.050 metres / 3.445 feet does the airport, which is operated by the Tanzania Airport Authority, have a single paved runway of 1.628 metres / 5.341 feet in length (Direction 14/32)
