Inter African Travel set to grow

(Posted 21st June 2015)

The venue at the Golf Course Hotel in Kampala will no doubt be overflowing when Derek Houston returns to Uganda to hold another one of his destination marketing sessions.

21 exhibitors have come along with him to showcase their services and an illustrious long list it makes but more important have nearly 100 travel trade representatives from tour operators and travel agents signed up to the half day long event. While participants need to register is their attendance free, probably one reason why such crowds always fill the room for Derek’s workshops.

The lunch, following the end of the workshop which runs from 09.00 hrs until 12.30 hrs, is sponsored by South Africa Tourism which will be presenting the results of their recent market research survey on the East African outbound Market to South Africa.

Across the border in Nairobi / Kenya, where Derek will be heading after the Kampala event, has the workshop been split into two as already 175 Kenyan tour operator and travel agents staff have signed up, with more expected to attend on the day, who will come to see some 28 exhibitors keen to get more outbound business from Kenya.

Said Derek when asked: ‘What your Spotlight Travel Expo all about’:

It is a mini travel and tourism Exhibition lasting just half a day. It focuses on Africa and worldwide

destinations promoting business and leisure travel, as well as conference tourism.

At Spotlight you can network with over 20 hotel groups, tour operators, airlines,

tourist offices, conference venues and safari lodges

There are no long drawn out presentations, you choose the tables you want to visit and you know who

exhibits because we provide those details in advance. Entrance is free of charge’.

Who should attend your Spotlight events

Travel Consultants from Travel Agencies and Tour Operators

PA’s and Secretaries doing air and hotel bookings

Corporates/ Govt Dept/NGO’s/ UN conference organizers wanting to source new venues

Frequent business travellers – those are the target group we want to bring together with the exhibitors

Derek was one of the early birds to promote inter African travel and organize workshops and such exhibitions and with this market segment, Africans travelling Africa, becoming an ever more important niche, it is no wonder that his events pull in exhibitors and participants.
